Minnesota Queer Legislators Caucus Commends State Leadership for Protecting Trans Rights

Saturday, February 8, 2025

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Over the past several weeks, President Trump has unleashed an onslaught of executive orders seeking to dehumanize and eradicate trans Americans from legal and legislative existence. In Minnesota, Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison are working to defend and uphold the integrity and decency of our state, reaffirming Minnesota as a trans refuge state.

The Minnesota Queer Legislators Caucus issued the following statement:

“We extend our deepest gratitude to Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison for their ongoing commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of transgender Minnesotans and keeping our state inclusive and welcoming for all. It is a fundamental right of all people to live authentically and access the care they need without fear of discrimination. Gender-affirming care is healthcare. All children deserve to play. Inclusion is not a threat.

“Minnesota is a trans refuge state, and we remain steadfast in protecting the individual rights and personal freedoms of all our residents, especially our trans, nonbinary, 2Spirit, and intersex community. While other states and Trump’s administration seek to restrict personal liberties, our commitment to protecting healthcare access, sports participation, and educational opportunities for all Minnesotans remains unwavering. Our caucus stands ready to work with the Governor's office, Attorney General, and all stakeholders to ensure Minnesota remains a state where every person can live freely and authentically, regardless of their gender identity or expression.”

The Queer Caucus is composed of members of the Minnesota State House and Senate who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+. The Queer Caucus works to advance and protect the rights of the whole Queer community, as well as the rights of our intersecting communities.
