Dear Neighbors,
My name is Andrew Myers, and I am proud to be your new state representative. I look forward to getting to work representing the communities and neighborhoods surrounding the west side of Lake Minnetonka.
It was great to meet so many of you and your families during the summer and fall. For those that I have not had the chance to meet, I am looking forward to connecting with you!
My wife and I live in Tonka Bay with our four children. I was a prior Planning Chair, City Council Member, and Parks Chair before being elected to the state legislature. This experience has fostered a deep sense of civic duty that has helped me build relationships, bridge divides, and deliver results for our community. I plan on bringing that same sense of collaboration to St. Paul.
That collaborative spirit was evident this past week as the House unanimously approved legislation that I co-authored aligning Minnesota’s tax code with changes made at the federal level.
Federal conformity was needed to ease filing compliance burdens and to help Minnesotans that were hardest hit from pandemic shutdowns – especially those in the restaurant, hospitality, and entertainment industries.
I am pleased that we were able to come together and get this bill passed during the first week of the legislative session and deliver results for Minnesotans. This vote proves that if we work across the aisle on the issues that matter most to Minnesotans, we can strengthen our state, our communities, and your backyard.
Moving forward, I plan to work on ways to strengthen our schools, improve access to mental health care, and help make Minnesota more affordable for everyday families and seniors. If we work together, we can grow Minnesota and make sure that our state remains the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
Most of my work during the first months of session will take place in House committees. For the 2023-2024 legislative biennium, I have been assigned to serve on the Capital Investment Committee, the Housing Finance and Policy Committee, and the Labor and Industry Finance and Policy Committee.
Additionally, I encourage you to reach out to me to share any questions, comments, or concerns you may have. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-9188 and via email at rep.andrew.myers@house.mn.gov.
Finally, please be sure to “like” my official legislative Facebook page where I plan to post videos and share updates on what’s happening in St. Paul. Click here to visit. Last week I posted a video to the page, click here to watch.
Have a great day,
Andrew
