Dear Neighbors,
Thanks to those of you that attended my first in-district office hours in Long Lake this past weekend. These meetings allow folks from across the political spectrum to come together and discuss the priorities in Your Backyard and work towards solutions we can all get behind. This sort of collaborative spirit is sadly something that has been missing at the Legislature.
During the meeting, we discussed topics including affordability, education, mental health, the environment, transparency in government, infrastructure and more.
Be on the lookout as I plan to host at least one of these meetings every month at locations around the area.
I have authored two bills this year that address water quality issues in our communities.
The first, House File 1087, appropriates $6.6 million in capital investment funding to the city on Minnetonka Beach to build a new water treatment plant.
The second, House File 1185, provides funding to the city of Mound for a variety of upgrades to water infrastructure. Infrastructure projects in the bill include a new clean water well, the decommission and sealing of two wells, installation of a new water main, and capital improvements to the water treatment facility.
Focusing on clean, accessible, and safe water is something I have worked on for years as a member of the city council and parks chair in our community. Continuing that tradition, as your State Representative, I am honored to work with city leaders, engineers, and residents as we work to improve water quality in our area. This will be one of many steps I take with local leaders to address these issues in Your Backyard.
I am working on legislation that I hope to introduce soon that would improve affordability for Minnesota families. This is an issue that is a priority for our area as we all deal with the impacts of inflation on our family budgets. When the bill is ready, I will share more details, but working towards affordability is something that you sent me to St. Paul to address so stay tuned for more!
If you plan on being in St. Paul sometime soon, I encourage you to reach out to my office to set up a time to meet and chat! It is always my goal to be as responsive as possible to the needs and priorities of you and Your Backyard.
Please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-9188 or via email at rep.andrew.myers@house.mn.gov.
Have a great weekend,
Andrew
