Dear Neighbors,
I am hosting my next in-district office hours tomorrow, March 25th, in Mound. The event is set to begin at 9:00 AM and we will be meeting at the Caribou Coffee in Mound located at 5401 Shoreline Drive.
Topics to discuss include education, mental health, health care, environment, clean water, and affordability.
If you’re thinking about attending on Saturday, please reach out to me via email.
My bipartisan bill to keep Minnesota’s waters clean received a hearing this week in the House Environment and Natural Resources Committee. I am extremely grateful for the strong support from the committee and look forward to continuing my work on this important issue.
The bill would require anglers to keep all garbage and sewage inside an icehouse, or in a container that is attached to the outside of the icehouse. Violation would result in a petty misdemeanor and fine.
Lake Minnetonka is the crown jewel of Our Backyard, and we have a responsibility to protect and preserve it for future generations. This bill will do that not only for Lake Minnetonka but for lakes across Minnesota.
Thanks to everyone for your support on this and I look forward to keeping you updated on its progress as the legislative session continues.
This week, my office met with the Commissioner of Public Safety, Bob Jacobson, to discuss local public safety aid for communities in our area.
During my time serving as your representative, I have met with our police chiefs to discuss ways we can support them at the state level to make sure they have the resources they need to keep us safe. Through those conversations and the relationships I have built, it is clear that we have some of the best and most dedicated law enforcement professionals in Minnesota right here in our communities.
I am committed to working with them and across the aisle to keep Your Backyard safe.
Yesterday, I introduced two bills that address some of the priorities I have consistently heard from constituents.
The first bill will lower the cost of car tab fees—directly making life more affordable for Minnesotans.
The second bill will increase transparency in government by making it easier for Minnesotans, both workers and employers, to get in touch with state agencies and the officials that are in charge of these agencies.
Stay tuned for more on both of these bills.
If you plan on being in St. Paul sometime soon, I encourage you to reach out to my office to set up a time to meet and chat! It is always my goal to be as responsive as possible to the needs and priorities of you and Your Backyard.
Please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-9188 or via email at rep.andrew.myers@house.mn.gov.
