Dear Neighbors, I hope this email finds you well. A big thank you to everyone who attended Carver County’s public open house to discuss the vision of a new and improved Highway 5. There was an excellent turnout and lots of interest in the project. You can stay updated on construction progress and the tentative schedule here.
Climate Town Hall MeetingI’m writing today to invite you to a town hall meeting I’m hosting on Wednesday, October 25th at 6:00 p.m. with House Climate and Energy Committee Chair Acomb, House Transportation Committee Chair Hornstein, and Senator and M.D. Kelly Morrison. We’ll focus on climate and energy discussing initiatives we passed during session and policy strategies we can consider as we look to 2024 and beyond. Everyone is invited to attend and share their questions in a productive Q&A dialogue.
Lawns to Legumes WorkshopAlso this month at the Arboretum, I’m hosting a Lawns to Legumes workshop on Saturday, October 28th at 3:00 p.m. with Senator Morrison and Rep. Tabke, both legislative authors of the new program running in Minnesota. It’ll be an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about what Lawns to Legumes is and why it’s important to our communities.
House Capital Investment Committee Visits ChaskaIn other local news, I was excited to welcome the House Capital Investment Committee to Chaska yesterday morning as the first stop on their Southwest Minnesota Tour. Mayor Windschitl articulated in detail the city’s request for $19 million to redevelop Chaska City Square West. The revitalization of downtown would be aimed at addressing shortcomings in public parking, fixing surrounding roads to ease traffic flow, improving walkability for pedestrians, and building public restrooms. The proposal would also utilize the public funds to build a City Hall Plaza, a Community Room for the Arts Consortium, a Mercado Indoor Farmers Market, and a City Square West Plaza.
This public investment would not only create hundreds of local jobs, it would help us support our small business community and entrepreneurs, improve walkability, and overall make getting around downtown more efficient. I’ll be carrying the city’s request as legislation in 2024. Feel free to reach out with your thoughts about the project and what you’d like to see moving forward.
