St. Paul, MN - Yesterday, the Minnesota House of Representatives approved bipartisan legislation authored by State Representative Lucy Rehm (DFL-Chanhassen) to encourage the University of Minnesota to provide disabled veterans and one guest free admission to the Landscape Arboretum in Chaska.
“Veterans with disabilities ought to have more free opportunities to enjoy and heal with access to our state’s great outdoors, especially with our regional gem of the Arboretum in the southwest metro,” said Rep. Rehm. “Our veterans have sacrificed so much to protect the freedoms we enjoy every day and this is one small way we thank Minnesotans who have served.”
The bill defines “disabled veteran” as a veteran with a permanent service-connected disability, as certified in writing by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs or the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs. To prove eligibility, an eligible veteran would be required to present a veteran photo ID card that includes the term “service-connected.”
HF 4742 will next head to the House Floor.
