 Dear Neighbors, As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day, we can look to Minnesota for being a national leader, independent of partisan obstruction, ensuring everyone has the right to a full life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In Minnesota, we are funding our public schools, investing in a strong workforce that’s produced some of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, eliminating "junk" fees, and implementing strategies to lower costs in housing, essential prescription medication like epipens and insulin and goods and services. We are ensuring our public infrastructure has long-term, sustainable funding that won’t have to compete with funding for other important priorities like nursing homes, schools, services for folks with disabilities, and more.  Many of these initiatives rooted in our values as Minnesotans and Americans alike are reflected in the new laws that took effect in our state on July 1st. You can find all of them in detail from the nonpartisan office of House Public Information here. Our progress gives me hope for the future. The ongoing American experiment continues and there’s much more work to do so people can continue to build a better life for themselves and their families. It’s an honor to partner with our Chanhassen and Chaska communities in these endeavors to keep us all moving forward. Carver County to Receive Federal Aid for FloodingThe extensive rain we’ve been getting has triggered a federal disaster declaration in 22 Minnesota counties, which includes Carver County, by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for severe flooding over the last two weeks. The declaration will provide resources to reimburse communities for debris removal, emergency protective measures, and repair and replacement of damaged infrastructure. As you’re making plans for the Fourth, be sure to check the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s road status updates here to see how your travels may be impacted - and stay safe! Requests have also been submitted for Individual Assistance through FEMA which is assistance to individuals and households. This request is still under review as Minnesotans document their damage and submit information to local county emergency managers, the state, and FEMA.
