Representative Zeleznikar Statement on the November Budget Forecast Saint Paul, MN — This morning Minnesota Management and Budget released their November budget forecast for the upcoming and following biennium. Their report projects a 1.1 billion dollar decrease in the surplus compared to the last budget forecast as well as an over 5 billion dollar deficit in the 2028-29 budget. Representative Natalie Zeleznikar (R – Fredenberg Township) followed up the report with this to say: "As Republicans warned last biennium, reckless government spending is not just an abstract problem—it’s a direct burden on Minnesota families," said Representative Zeleznikar. "We started 2023 with a historic $18 billion surplus and now this budget forecast depicts a much different outlook because of the choices and decisions made in 2023/2024." "The nearly $10 billion in increased taxes and fees from the last budget are already straining household budgets, making it harder for families to make ends meet. As we approach this legislative session, the stakes couldn’t be higher. We must take immediate action to reverse this unsustainable path, restore fiscal responsibility, and ease the heavy financial load that has been unfairly placed on Minnesotans. Legislators have a responsibility to respect the hard-earned dollars of our citizens and protect their economic future." ### |
