Legislative UpdateDear Northlanders, As the month of March wraps up, the days are busy at the Capitol. This week I want to highlight some of the healthcare-related bills I have authored and received hearings for. HF 499 is a bill that allows a nurse who graduated and passed their board exam to practice with a temporary license for 90 days vs. 60 days to allow nurses to continue to work with patients while the Board of Nursing processes their license. Often nurses relocate to MN to take a new job, and others are new graduates who attend school in MN and must wait for their license to be processed after passing their board exam. It is critical for everyone to have assurance of an ambulance arriving regardless of your zip code. As a member of the EMS (ambulance task force) and Aging task force, my hope is to close this session with a sustainable funding source for Greater Minnesota areas. This allows individuals the opportunity to receive free training close to home and provides opportunities to ensure the community worker shortage in healthcare is addressed.
