Rep. Rymer Unveils Bill to Strengthen Immigration Enforcement
Saint Paul-
Today Representative Max Rymer (R-North Branch) unveiled his bill (House File 16), Banning Sanctuary Cities and Strengthening Immigration Enforcement. This initiative is a legislative effort aimed at strengthening immigration enforcement.
This initiative prevents local and state government entities from enacting policies that restrict cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. It also mandates reporting illegal immigrants arrested for violent crimes to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), ensuring that criminals who are here unlawfully are held accountable. This initiative compliments the Laken Riley Act which has been seen at the national level and signed by President Trump.
“Sanctuary policies that shield violent offenders from deportation only make our communities less safe,” said Rep. Max Rymer. “This initiative takes meaningful action to protect Minnesotans, restore fiscal responsibility, and ensure our state’s laws are upheld. It requires that violent offenders who are here illegally are reported to ICE immediately, so they cannot reoffend and victimize more innocent people. Public safety must come before politics.”
This initiative, mandates reporting to ICE when illegal immigrants are arrested for violent crimes, including murder, assault, carjacking, and kidnapping. It also prevents local governments from obstructing immigration enforcement by banning sanctuary city policies that protect criminals from deportation.
This initiative reflects House Republicans' commitment to law and order, ensuring the safety of communities across Minnesota.
