Dear Neighbors,

Thank you for the incredible honor of serving our Shoreview and Roseville communities in the Minnesota House of Representatives. This week, I was officially sworn-in as the State Representative for District 40B, and I’m so excited to get to work for you.
Rep. Gottfried Swearing-In

For those of you who aren’t familiar with me, my name is David Gottfried. I was born and raised in Roseville, where I attended Roseville Area Public Schools and maintained a “secret tree” in Central Park. After journeys to Northfield to attend St. Olaf College (framm framm!), to New York City to find purpose, and Maple Grove to find love, I am so glad to have settled in Shoreview! My wife Haylee and I intend to raise our family and spend the rest of our days here.

I currently work at a local law firm as a Pro Bono Specialist, supporting the firm’s pro bono program and increasing access to justice within the metro and across the state! Highlights of my work there include coordinating biennial Nonpartisan Election Protection efforts with Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, administering ongoing Volunteer Housing Law programs with Volunteer Lawyers Network, and supporting a Nonprofit & Small Business Legal Clinic! Prior to working at the firm, I received my Masters Degree in Public Policy from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota.

In my spare time, I love playing with our three cats, reading science fiction and fantasy novels, playing Dungeons & Dragons, writing, emotionally investing far too much into the Minnesota Vikings, and conducting DIY house projects!

Here in the Minnesota House of Representatives, I’ll be serving on the Education Policy Committee, the Agriculture Finance and Policy Committee, and the Environment and Natural Resources Finance and Policy Committee for the 2025 and 2026 legislative sessions.

Thanks to you and your support, I’m hitting the ground running here in St. Paul, where we’ve had an unconventional legislative session to say the least. With our district finally having representation, it brings the Minnesota House to a 67-67 tie. Earlier this year, my DFL colleagues fought hard to secure a power-sharing agreement in the likely event of this tie, meaning that our community’s voices won’t be ignored just because I joined the House in March.

As I start my official work at the State Capitol, always feel free to reach out with any questions, comments, or ideas you have on how to make our community and state better. You can reach me at rep.david.gottfried@house.mn.gov or 651-296-7153. You’ll either hear back from me, or my Legislative Assistant, Carl.

To keep up with my work in the House, you can either check out my legislative webpage, or follow along on my new official Facebook page. Thank you again for placing your trust in me. I can’t wait to see what we can build together!

Sincerely,

David Gottfried

State Representative
