Could North Dakota's oil boom be a boon for Minnesota?

North Dakota’s oil industry has been good for that state’s economy, generating more than $12 billion in economic activity, according to the state's Department of Commerce.

With an average annual wage for an oil industry employee of approximately $89,020, the boom is luring job seekers in record numbers from across the country to North Dakota's oil fields.

Rep. Ben Lien (DFL-Moorhead), whose legislative district borders North Dakota, sponsors a bill that  calls for a study which would put forward policy recommendations on how Minnesota can respond to the challenges and opportunities presented by oil production in North Dakota.

It’s our Starting Line bill for the week. Watch it here.
