Rep. Berg Statement on Anniversary of Burnsville First Responder Deaths

Tuesday, February 18, 2025

St. Paul, MN – Today will mark the one year anniversary of the loss of three first responders who were killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic violence call in the early morning hours of February 18, 2024. Rep. Kaela Berg (DFL-Burnsville) released the following statement:

“There are no words to express how difficult the last year has been for Burnsville’s Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters, their families and loved ones, and our community.  We lost three of our finest that day, Officer Paul Elmstrand, Officer Matthew Ruge and Firefighter Adam Finseth. They were beloved sons and brothers, Adam and Paul, husbands and fathers. They each loved and were deeply invested in our community. They served and protected Burnsville with courage, selflessness, compassion, and true servant hearts. They exemplified the very best of public service and of humanity. Hearts and families were broken that day, and those left behind face their own immeasurable pain and arduous path to healing.

As we continue to come to terms with this tragedy one year later, may we follow the example set by Matthew, Paul and Adam to lead with integrity, bravery, love and respect each in our own way. Our debt of gratitude for their service will forever remain. Thank you to all who continue to protect and serve as we honor the sacrifice and memory of our three fallen Heroes.”

The community is invited to pay their respects at Burnsville City Hall (100 Civic Center Parkway, Burnsville), where three memorial wreaths will be on display for 24 hours.
