St. Paul, MN - As part of the slate of bills passed during this week’s special session, the Minnesota Legislature passed a Capital Investment Bonding Bill with over $700 million in funding for infrastructure projects throughout the state.
State Representative Luke Frederick (DFL - Mankato), the DFL Vice Chair of the House Capital Investment Committee, was instrumental in securing $55 million for the construction of a new 50-bed psychiatric facility on the campus of the Anoka Metro Regional Treatment Center.
“The Bonding Bill is one of the best ways we can strategically invest in our state’s infrastructure, and I’m grateful we were not only able to pass a bill this year, but one that significantly addresses Minnesota’s mental health needs,” said Rep. Frederick. “A lack of beds severely limits our ability to deliver the safety net support Minnesotans deserve, and this investment will finally provide some breathing room to an over-burdened system.”
The Bonding Bill also includes $7.5 million for asset preservation at the Minnesota Department of Human Services, providing needed upgrades and repairs to facilities statewide that support the health and wellbeing of Minnesotans.
