MINUTES



Representative Carlos Mariani, Chair of the K-12 Education Policy & Oversight Committee, called the thirty-sixth meeting to order at 8:33 AM on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 in the basement hearing room of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll:

Rep. Doepke moved the minutes of April 2, 2009 be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE MINUTES WERE ADOPTED.

The committee members reflected on their 2009 goals and achievements.

HF 1080 (Norton) - A bill for an act relating to education; clarifying the definition of comprehensive scientifically based reading instruction; making requirements of prekindergarten through grade six teachers; creating an assessment of reading instruction; providing for a legislative review of Board of Teaching rules; amending Minnesota Statutes 2008, sections 122A.06, subdivision 4, 122A.18, subdivisions 2, 2a, by adding a subdivision.

Rep. Norton moved that HF 1080 be recommended to pass.

Rep. Norton moved the H1080DE3 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Rep. Norton presented HF 1080, as amended.
