Legislative UpdateDear neighbors, This week I want to talk about the Govenor’s budget and how Walz's proposed budget cuts will affect our most vulnerable members of our community. Many people are worried about the cuts happening at the national level, but Walz’s budget proposal causes many cuts right here in Minnesota that will affect many people in our communities. One of Walz’s budget cut plans is to cut housing funding for people with special needs. Also, he is proposing to cut transportation funding for people with special needs as well. These two cuts would be detrimental to the people and caregivers who need them and would hurt the most vulnerable population. On Monday we heard house File 4 which would amend the Minnesota Constitution to require that a portion of the state's projected budget surplus be returned directly to taxpayers. The bill establishes the Minnesota Tax Relief Fund, ensuring that the surplus is set aside and returned to the Minnesotans who paid it. HF 4 failed to pass and the vote tied 67-67. While the House Republicans are talking about giving the hard-working taxpayer their money back the Walz Administration is looking at cuts that would be harmful to our communities. I will continue to fight for our vulnerable population, our communities, and you - the taxpayer. |
