Legislative update

Friday, July 19, 2024

Dear Neighbor,

Greetings from the House, where this week we come to 60 days removed from the end of the 2024 session. More on what that means in a bit, but first I want to take a moment to address the recent assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

The attempt on the life of the former President was a horrific event that raised the passions and emotions of many rational Americans down to the local level. I understand and appreciate these emotions, however we must remain calm and reasoned during this time of heated rhetoric.

For the sake of civility and respect, I am encouraging people, as I have in the past to take the high road regarding statements or responses … particularly on social media. We should strongly condemn all types of violence, including inciteful verbal comments, whether it be on the national or local level and not encourage any comments or actions that may prompt further hostility.

The political process is most effective when there is open and honest dialog conducted in a civil and respectful manner. Let’s do our best to operate that way.

60-day deadline

This week we reach 60 days from the end of the 2024 session, at which point House members are prohibited from emailing newsletters such as this until after the November election.

In the meantime, I will continue doing my job as always to represent the people of District 11A. Your individual correspondence always is welcome and I will continue meeting with local residents to discuss whatever issues are important to you. You also are encouraged to check out my Facebook page, where I will continue making posts during this newsletter hiatus.

Until next time, I hope to see you around the district. Please let me know if there’s anything I can do to help!

Sincerely,

Jeff
