Legislative Update - Supporting Main Street

Monday, April 28, 2025

Dear Neighbors,

At the Capitol we are finalizing and passing our House budget bills as we enter the last month of session. These bills are hard fought compromises and, like most compromises, both sides have things they like and don’t like about these bills. But the key theme with each of these bills is that the DFL held our ground on the progress we made during the last biennium and stopped any attempts to make our state more like the chaotic federal government.

New Bill - Standing up for our Main Street Businesses

  • I just introduced a bill to require large, publicly traded, corporations to pay small businesses for goods and services within 45 days.
  • Often these larger companies will string along our local businesses causing serious cash flow problems that hurt their bottom line. This bill will level the playing field so our local businesses can compete on a fair playing field. This sort of support is especially for Main Street businesses who are suffering under the uncertainty and chaos of President’s Trump’s tariffs and other economic policies.
  • You can watch me explain the importance of this bill here.

Earth Day - Helping Businesses be Environmentally Friendly

  • Last week, I teamed up with north metro business leaders to host a roundtable for businesses to learn more about how they can make their businesses more environmentally sustainable. It was a great way to cap Earth Day week!
  • I was joined by experts from the Center for Energy and Environment, Anoka County, and Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Retiree Environmental Technical Assistance Program (RETAP).
  • I’d also like to thank LEAD Networking for convening the session and Archstone Workspace for hosting it!

Blaine Business Council - Learning About Economic Opportunities

  • We had a productive Blaine Business Council meeting last week.
  • We talked about the economic and community impact of one of Blaine’s biggest annual events—the 3M Open which happens to occur at the TPC Blaine pictured below!
  • I always enjoy these meetings as they are a great way to keep a finger on the pulse of our community and what I can do as a legislator to help out.
