Legislative UpdateDear neighbors, It's been another busy week here at the Capitol as we are in the middle of session. This week I met with Meadows on Fairview --- Assisted Living Facility in Wyoming. They're doing great work serving our community. Unfortunately, the governor's budget is calling for $700 million in cuts to assisted living facilities. We have plenty of other places to tighten the belt in order to get to a balanced budget. Putting it on the back of our seniors is wrong. ![]() Met with local constituents with the Susan G Komen foundation to discuss early treatment options and detection for cancer. Today, I'm paying another visit to Chisago Lakes School District to learn more about their Career and Technical Education program. Talked with Rachel from North Branch during Disability Services Day at the Capitol on Tuesday. They operate a number of homes in Chisago County. ![]() Some bill highlights: House File 16 --- Mandatory cooperation with ICE if an illegal immigrant is suspected of committing a violent crime. It was laid over in committees and may be included in a larger bill. HF609 --- A bonding bill project to construct a new public safety facility in Wyoming. Will be heard in committee next week. HF1446--- A bill to increase penalties when infusing fentanyl into other drugs. New Bill Introduction --- No House file yet, but a bill to eliminate tax on natural supplements. We don't tax food and we don't tax medicine. Why should we get taxed on supplements? |
