ST. PAUL – Legislation designating Highway 7 through McLeod County "Patrol Officer Michael Alan Hogan Memorial Highway" received overwhelming final approval from the House Thursday and is in the hands of Gov. Mark Dayton for enactment.
Hogan was shot and killed on duty as a Hutchinson Police Department patrolman in 1989. Current Hutchinson Police Chief Dan Hatten and former Lt. Dave Erlandson advocated for Hogan's recognition during the committee process.
Rep. Dean Urdahl, R-Acton Township, and Sen. Scott Newman, R-Hutchinson, led the bill (S.F. 2315) to passage as chief authors of the legislation. Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen, R-Glencoe, is a co-author in the House.
"This proposal received strong support throughout the legislative process and the people who helped move it to the finish line can be proud of the work they did," Urdahl said. "This dedication is a just recognition of Officer Hogan's ultimate sacrifice for the public."
The bill passed both bodies without opposition, 124-0 in the House after clearing the Senate 60-0 April 27.
