ST. PAUL – Rep. Dean Urdahl, R-Acton Township, issued the following statement regarding news today that Hutchinson’s West Elementary is receiving the full $5,240 it requested in state school safety grant funding.
“Funding for school safety was a major accomplishment in this year’s bonding bill and it is good to see Hutchinson was successful in its application to receive a portion of the funding we provided,” Urdahl said. “There was strong demand for the funding we made available, underscoring the importance of continuing our efforts to help school districts improve security at their buildings. This subject will continue to be a priority for the Capital Investment Committee under my chairmanship.”
As chairman of the House Capital Investment Committee, Urdahl earlier this year successfully led to enactment $25 million in grant funding that schools could apply for to make physical safety improvements. The Minnesota Department of Education formally announced the grant allocations in a news release.
The Legislature approved an additional $25 million in school safety grants as part of the supplemental budget bill, but those funds were vetoed.
