ST. PAUL – State Rep. Dean Urdahl, R-Acton Township, issued the following statement Tuesday in response to the budget proposal Gov. Tim Walz issued for the upcoming biennium, including a $1.7 billion tax increase that would give Minnesota the nation’s second-highest business tax and third-highest income tax rates:
“Our focus for the state’s new budget should be helping Minnesota families and businesses grow as we work to restore our economy to where it was prior to the pandemic,” Urdahl said. “Instead, the governor’s approach would only add to the burden for people who have seen dramatic income reductions, while not doing nearly enough to identify ways the state can save on spending. It concerns me the governor’s approach would only make the road to recovery even more challenging. The state needs to do more to share in the burden instead of placing an even heavier load on struggling taxpayers. It doesn’t make sense to raise the taxes on job providers at a time when people need jobs.”
