ST. PAUL – State Rep. Dean Urdahl, R-Acton Township, announces the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority has approved the city of Lake Lillian for more than $2.6 million in state financing to rehabilitate the city’s drinking water treatment plant and improvements to remove arsenic.
Urdahl indicated the city has suffered significant drinking water safety hazards, with studies showing arsenic levels significantly higher than the Minnesota Department of Health’s threshold for compliance. He indicated the price tag for making necessary improvements is beyond the capacity of Lake Lillian’s tax base.
“Congratulations to residents of Lake Lillian, the local officials who were successful in this grant application and for the local commitment to improving the city’s drinking water infrastructure,” Urdahl said. “This award will help to ensure this essential project is completed and protect Lake Lillian taxpayers in the process, a win-win for local residents. I am a strong advocate of funding to facilitate infrastructure projects such as this and am pleased to see people in our area will benefit from this award.”
The funding is provided through a Water Infrastructure Fund Drinking Water Grant, with a USDA Rural Development match, and totals $2,620,000. More PFA information is available at www.mn.gov/deed/pfa.
