Dear Neighbor,
Here is some information regarding a town hall meeting I am co-hosting with fellow District 18 legislators to discuss the topic of childcare unionization. The event will be 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 5 at the Hutchinson Public Library.
This has been a hot-button issue at the Capitol and throughout the state. Judges have twice placed an injunction on initiatives to conduct a vote among providers on whether they would unionize. The latest ruling from a federal appellate court halts the unionization law until the U.S. Supreme Court makes a decision on a similar case in Illinois.
We are looking to receive direct input from local providers, parents whose children receive care and others at the meeting. There seems to be confusion over who childcare unionization would impact and how the vote itself would take place. We can discuss those details and more during the town hall.
For now, these recent Star Tribune articles can provide some helpful background:
I hope you can join us for this important meeting and encourage you to forward this information to any providers, parents or other citizens who may wish to attend.
Sincerely,
Dean
