SAINT PAUL – Today, MMB released the February Economic Forecast, revealing a projected $1.65 billion surplus.
House DFL Leader Melissa Hortman released the following statement:
“Minnesota's economy is strong and stable, but we must take care to maintain and improve it. Some of our roads and bridges are crumbling. College costs are too high. Good paying jobs with good benefits are hard to find in too many of our communities.
“The surplus is an opportunity to reinvest in all Minnesotans - in strong public schools, affordable higher education and job training, improving our transportation system, and expanding access to good jobs across Minnesota. Minnesota won't continue to be competitive if we fail to invest in Minnesotans.
“With this opportunity comes the responsibility to budget wisely to benefit the whole state in the face of uncertainty. In order to improve economic outcomes for all Minnesotans, we must reinvest in the priorities that made Minnesota a leader. Minnesota is a great state, and our priority should be making it even better.”
