SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and House DFL Floor Leader Jamie Long released the following statements on Governor Walz’s State of the State address:
Speaker Emerita Hortman:
“I’m grateful to Governor Walz for his steady leadership at this uncertain time in our country. We have done great work together over the last several years to build a Minnesota where everyone has a real chance to succeed. The chaos of the Trump Administration is already harming Minnesotans, and more damage is likely in the weeks and months ahead. Here in Minnesota, we must govern responsibly and protect as many people as possible from the destructive policies coming out of Washington, D.C. We are making progress on our state budget, and we’re hopeful Minnesota Republicans will continue to join us in this work in the final weeks of the legislative session.”
Floor Leader Long:
“Over the past six years, Governor Walz has led us on a path of governing based on our values and making a positive difference in people’s lives, and together, we’ve accomplished a great deal. Tonight, he laid out a vision where we can weather challenges like those we’re seeing from the federal government while keeping our state strong. In Washington, Donald Trump and his Republican allies are working day and night to create chaos and division, attack our freedoms, gut health care, and help the biggest corporations get bigger and the richest get richer. Here in Minnesota, people are counting on us all to work together to make life more affordable and give more power to regular people, not massive corporations and the ultrawealthy. House Democrats are committed to working with Governor Walz to set an example for the nation of what’s possible when we govern both ambitiously and responsibly.”
