SAINT PAUL – Today, Republicans on the Subcommittee on Employee Relations voted against ratification of the employee contracts for nearly 30,000 state workers represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 5 and the Minnesota Association of Professional Employees (MAPE). All DFL members present voted to approve the contracts.
House DFL Leader Melissa Hortman said:
“Public employees perform critical jobs across the state to keep our roads safe, protect our citizens and improve our quality of life. The Republicans’ votes today prove – once again – that they are not on the side of working Minnesotans and their families. This Republican action disregards the workers’ right to earn a decent living. Republican members of the subcommittee should reconsider their vote and ratify the contracts before the health insurance open enrollment period ends so Minnesota taxpayers can take advantage of the health care savings that were negotiated and so these valued members of the workforce can move forward with more secure futures.”
