St. Paul, Minnesota — The Minnesota House DFL re-elected state Representative Melissa Hortman Speaker of the House-designate at their organizational caucus this evening. Representative Ryan Winkler was re-elected Majority Leader.
“I am honored to have the support of my colleagues to continue serving as Speaker of the House,” said Speaker Hortman. “After being elected to another two year majority, House Democrats are ready to continue our efforts to build a Minnesota that works better for everyone. We’re focused on the things Minnesotans value: recovering and rebuilding from COVID, affordable health care, good schools, and economic security.”
“We have a lot of work ahead of us, but House DFLers have governed effectively, and we will continue to do so. It is going to take all of us working together to meet the challenges facing Minnesotans,” said Majority Leader Winkler. “I thank my colleagues for again trusting me with this leadership role.”
The DFL majority will consist of 70 members, pending possible recounts and the ongoing count of absentee ballots. A majority of the DFL members are women. Nearly a quarter of the members of the incoming majority are people of color or Indigenous.
