Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and Majority Leader Ryan Winkler released the following statements on the new COVID-19 actions announced by Governor Walz:
“Minnesota’s COVID situation is dire. We need to work together to get the spread under control,” said Speaker Hortman. “We must pause some of our interactions to prevent our health care system from becoming overwhelmed. I'm grateful to Governor Walz for taking these tough but necessary steps. We need action from the federal government as well. Our national leaders must act to provide emergency economic assistance to individuals and businesses as soon as possible. This is an emergency, and we need the kind of major bipartisan cooperation we saw in the spring to pass a substantial economic assistance package.”
“Without strong action, Minnesota will be facing its darkest days yet in this pandemic,” said Majority Leader Winkler. “Our health and long term care workers are under immense stress and strain. We need to support them by doing our part: stay home, wear masks, stay six feet apart, and quarantine if exposed. Governor Walz and his Administration are taking sensible steps to address this crisis. Now it’s our job to join together, do the right thing, and protect our fellow Minnesotans.”
