St. Paul, Minnesota — Minnesota Speaker of the House Melissa Hortman today announced the appointment of Representative Liz Olson as Deputy Majority Leader and Speaker Pro Tempore for the 2021-22 biennium. Rep. Olson currently serves as House Majority Whip.
“I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity to continue in a leadership role for the House DFL majority as we continue our work to ensure all Minnesotans can succeed and thrive,” Rep. Olson said. “This past year has been full of difficulties, and workers, families, and small businesses continue to struggle. Together, we can forge a path so everyone can be safe, healthy, and economically secure.”
As Deputy Majority Leader, Rep. Olson will continue to work with Speaker Hortman and Majority Leader Ryan Winkler to develop and implement the House majority’s agenda.
“Representative Olson is an outstanding leader. I am grateful for her willingness to continue to serve as one of the key leaders in the Minnesota House,” said Speaker Hortman. “Since 2017, Representative Olson has led the development and passage of the Minnesota House DFL’s legislative agenda. As Deputy Majority Leader and Speaker Pro Tempore, she will continue to play a significant role leading the House DFL’s engagement with the public and stakeholders, and in our communications and organizing work.”
The Minnesota House DFL will elect a new Majority Whip and new Assistant Leaders for the 2021-22 biennium at an upcoming pre-session caucus retreat.
