St. Paul, Minnesota — Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and Majority Leader Ryan Winkler released the following statements on the COVID-19 announcements by Governor Walz:
“Governor Walz and his team are continuing to follow the science and the data to make sure we protect our loved ones during this holiday season and prevent our health care system from being overwhelmed,” said Speaker Hortman. “This week, Minnesota health care workers and seniors began receiving the first doses of the COVID vaccine, bringing the hope that this is the beginning of the end of the pandemic, and that we will be able to resume normal activities soon. I'm grateful to the public health professionals guiding Minnesota's response, and appreciate the incredibly long hours and dedication they bring to the work of keeping Minnesotans safe and healthy.”
“House Democrats have been clear from the beginning: in order to get this pandemic under control, we need to take basic health precautions and support the families and businesses hardest hit until a vaccine is broadly available,” said Majority Leader Ryan Winkler. “Time and again, Republicans have openly disregarded public guidelines that are in place to save lives and help our frontline healthcare workers. Their reckless attitude has made the pandemic worse, and has hurt small businesses and working families.”
