St. Paul, Minnesota — Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and Majority Leader Ryan Winkler released the following statements on today’s education announcements from Governor Walz:
“We all want kids back in the classroom safely, and today's announcement to speed up that process for middle school and high school students is welcome news,” said Speaker Hortman. “Minnesota's schoolchildren miss seeing their teachers and friends in person, and distance learning has brought challenges for many. I am grateful to Governor Walz and our public health professionals for their work to keep Minnesotans safe, and to our incredible educators and students who have had to weather a very difficult year.”
“As our students prepare to return to the classroom, the Legislature should be focused on providing economic security for teachers, school workers, and all of the heroes of this pandemic who have sacrificed the most to keep all of us safe and healthy,” said Majority Leader Ryan Winkler. “Senate Republicans appear more interested in taking cheap shots at Governor Walz over a global pandemic than working with House Democrats to take care of Minnesotans’ enormous needs right now.”
