St. Paul, Minnesota — Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and House Majority Leader Jamie Long released the following statements on Governor Walz’s State of the State address:
Speaker Hortman
“We are aligned with Governor Walz and his inspirational vision to build a stronger state, reduce child poverty, and make Minnesota the best state in the nation for children and families. We’ve accomplished so much together already this session, with more good work still to come. DFLers in the Minnesota House are looking forward to our continued efforts with the Senate and the Governor to complete the two-year state budget and make needed investments in the areas Minnesotans care about and value most: education, health care, economic security, and the safety and vitality of our communities.”
Majority Leader Long
“Under the leadership of Governor Tim Walz and Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan, the state of our State is strong and getting even stronger. We are in the midst of a historically productive legislative session, enacting legislation that is truly transformative that will change lives for the better. Whether it’s providing universal school meals, protecting reproductive freedom, or transitioning to 100% clean energy, the Governor and this Legislature are united in our values and committed to building a state that works better for everyone. While Republican-controlled states enact extreme laws like banning books and putting the government in charge of our most personal, private health care decisions, Minnesota is leading the way and setting an example for the rest of the country. I couldn’t be more proud to work with Governor Walz and this Legislature to move Minnesota forward.”
