Friends,
Happy Fourth of July to you and your family! I hope you have an enjoyable and safe holiday and are able to enjoy quality time with family, great food and fireworks! Additionally, if you’re traveling over the holiday, please be sure to drive safely.
Major Flooding
Again, I want to send my thoughts and prayers to everyone who has been affected by the flash floods this past week. Please stay safe and follow the directions of local law enforcement and other emergency personnel during this time.
I also wanted you to know the proper authorities have been alerted to our community's plight. The Red Cross across Minnesota has mobilized and will be of assistance and my office has been in contact with the proper people in the Governor's Administration. We will continue to monitor and assistance will be provided.
The Red Cross of southeastern Minnesota's phone number is 507-287-2200 if you have been impacted by the rain and flash floods, including if sewers have backed up into your home. If there is an emergency please call 911.
In the meantime, please stay off of any roads with standing water on them or that have been compromised by the flash floods. Stay away from any downed powerlines (I'm not aware of any but whenever there is this much rain in a short amount of time the ground could be compromised). And if you encounter an emergency call 911.
New Laws in Effect July 1
On July 1, a number of new laws will take effect in the State of Minnesota. They include new funding for various areas of state government – transportation, environment, K-12 Education, etc. - for the upcoming budget cycle. To read more about our new laws that take effect July 1, click here.
Dairy Assistance Program
Recently, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture announced the rollout of the new Dairy Assistance, Investment, and Relief Initiative (DAIRI) program, which provides financial assistance for small- to medium-sized dairy producers who meet certain qualifications. This program was funded through the Agriculture and the Jobs omnibus bills this session to ensure that our dairy farmers can continue the work that is so important to our state.
To apply, or for information on how to qualify, please visit www.mda.state.mn.us/dairi.
