Legislative UpdateLast session started with a $17.5 billion surplus. Democrats in the Legislature spent that entire surplus, and then raised taxes on Minnesotans by another $10 billion, making life more expensive for everyone. Yesterday, Minnesota Management and Budget released their report on the November budget forecast. You may have seen the news that there is a $2.4B surplus. You may not know that because of the legislation passed this last session, has that surplus already spent in the next budget. That’s even with the nearly $10B in tax increases pushed through. The spending spree by Democrats has made life more expensive for every Minnesotan. Now, even with a record surplus and $10 billion in higher taxes, we are facing a deficit in the upcoming budget that the next legislature will have to deal with. This is irresponsible in the extreme, and a shameful way to squander the tax dollars of hardworking Minnesotans. |
