Representative Duane Quam Named Republican Co-chair of the House Elections Finance and Government Operations Committee

St. Paul, MN – Representative Duane Quam (R-Byron) has been named the Republican Co-chair of the House Elections Finance and Government Operations Committee. This appointment recognizes Representative Quam’s longstanding commitment to fiscal responsibility, election integrity, and government accountability.

In his new role, Representative Quam will work alongside committee leadership to oversee key aspects of Minnesota’s election systems, financial management, and government operations. As a dedicated advocate for transparency and responsible governance, he brings a wealth of experience and a steadfast focus on protecting the voice of Minnesotans.

“I am honored to serve as Co-chair of this vital committee,” said Rep. Quam. “Minnesotans deserve election systems that are fair, secure, and efficient, and I am committed to ensuring taxpayer dollars are used wisely to support government operations that work for everyone.”

Quam’s leadership reflects his commitment to addressing pressing election-related issues, including taxation without representation. He has championed legislation like HF 0525, which seeks to grant landowners voting rights on tax-related referendums for property located in jurisdictions where they do not reside. This bill aims to ensure fairness and accountability, particularly for farmers and rural landowners, by addressing a long-standing inequity in local election laws.

“As a representative of rural Minnesota, I understand the unique challenges faced by our communities,” Quam added. “The integrity of our election systems and the fairness of our tax structures are paramount. My work on this committee will reflect these priorities and the values of the people I serve.”

With an unprecedented tied legislature with 67 members from each party, all committees will have two Chairs: one Republican and one Democrat. Further, every committee will be evenly split 50/50 between the two parties. Committee Chairs were announced on November 25th.

Quam has served in the Minnesota House since 2011, representing District 24A, which includes communities in Olmsted and Dodge counties. He is a tireless advocate for rural Minnesota, focusing on issues such as elections, government efficiency, education, infrastructure, and economic development.
