Dear Neighbors,
Omnibus bills are moving quickly and a plan for passage has been presented by the House Majority.
The plan is similar to one used in 2016 in which the House Majority passed a 599-page supplemental budget with just over an hour left in the 2016 legislative session. There will be three major finance bills: higher education and E-12 education merged; transportation and health and human services combined; agriculture, environment, jobs and state government rolled into one. Taxes, Bonding, and Public Safety and Legacy funding will be the only stand-alone bills.
The Senate is planning to do one, massive, all-encompassing bill, so it will be interesting to see how the two legislative bodies will reconcile the differences within their bills.
Governor Dayton’s Letter to Legislative Leaders
Yesterday the Governor sent a letter to Speaker Daudt and Majority Leader Gazelka with specific parameters to ensure a smooth ending for the 2018 legislative session. With a month left before adjournment, I was grateful to see the Governor being proactive with these requests. You can read about these parameters and find the entire letter here.
