Dear Neighbors,
Yesterday, Governor Walz announced an extension of the state’s stay at home order. The order, originally slated to expire on May 4th, will now last until May 18th.
I share the concerns many of you have and worry about the long-term impact this shutdown will have on small businesses in our community. Many are barely hanging on and cannot afford to be closed any longer, especially as their large competitors have been allowed to remain open.

The Governor also announced that retail and other non-critical businesses can begin offering curbside pick-up. While this is a small step in the right direction, it certainly was not the full extent of the news we were hoping to hear.

Reopening Campgrounds and RV Resorts
This week, I wrote a letter to Governor Walz urging him to reopen campgrounds and RV resorts. A copy of the letter can be found here.
It is a privilege and an honor to represent an area of the state known for its lakes, shops, and outdoor recreational opportunities. The current containment strategy that allows Walmart to be open while closing small businesses is incredibly irresponsible. The governor may be well-meaning, but resorts and campgrounds are passionate community members who are well able to protect their customers and serve their needs.
I have no doubt that these families can reopen their businesses in a way that preserves the health and safety of their customers and I urge Governor Walz to give them the opportunity to do so.
The letter was signed by 36 lawmakers including Minnesota House Republican Leader Kurt Daudt and Deputy Leader, Anne Neu.
