Heintzeman Celebrates Passage of Macy's Bill
ST. PAUL, MN – Today, Representative Heintzeman (R-Nisswa) celebrated the passage of Macy’s Bill (HF 341), a piece of legislation he authored to enhance penalties for repeat offenders of driving without a valid license.
Ahead of the floor vote, Rep. Heintzeman delivered a heartfelt testimony, sharing the inspiration behind the bill. Macy’s Bill is the result of over a decade of collaboration between Rep. Heintzeman and Sue Vanek, the mother and grandmother of the victims after whom this bill is named. Sue Vanek was present for today’s floor vote.
“I introduced Macy’s Bill to ensure that no other family has to endure the heartbreak and tragedy caused by repeat offenders behind the wheel,” said Rep. Heintzeman. “This bill is a testament to the resilience of Sue Vanek, who has worked tirelessly for over ten years to ensure that her daughter and granddaughter’s story leads to real change. I’m grateful for the bipartisan support this bill received and hopeful it will bring about greater safety on our roads.”
The bill received strong bipartisan support, passing with a vote of 120 in favor and 14 opposed. The legislation will take effect on August 1, 2025.
