Dear Neighbors,
Please join me in praying for the families of the three fallen first responders who were tragically killed in Burnsville last Sunday. I encourage all of us to rally around them, the community of Burnsville, and our local first responders by providing them with the support and encouragement they need.
This week’s tragedy is a sad reminder of the dangers these brave men and women face every day. Please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Democrats and their bad ideas are back again with the introduction of legislation that would turn Minnesota into a sanctuary state. In short, the bill would ban state and local law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration authorities.
This would turn Minnesota into a magnet for illegal immigration at a time when the southern border is wide open because President Biden refuses to secure it.
To be clear, this would be one of the easiest “NO” votes for me during my time in the legislature if it comes to the House Floor.
In the meantime, I will keep you posted on any developments with this legislation and continue my work to stop this bill in its tracks. Remember, despite what you may hear, no bill is officially "dead" until the legislative session is adjourned for the year.
To the surprise of no one, Democrats are already renewing their calls for increased gun control before the families of the fallen Burnsville first responders have had a chance to lay their loved ones to rest.
One of the bills (HF3570) prohibits the sale or transfer of almost all semiautomatic weapons. Democrats will say to the public that this is an attempt to ban “AR-style rifles” but it covers many more firearms. Another bill (HF3628) is even more restrictive, banning the possession – not just the transfer – of certain rifles, and even lists them by name. Also, magazines of more than 10 rounds would be outlawed.
If Democrats and their allies spent a fraction of their time and energy focused on enforcing the gun laws we already have and holding criminals responsible for their actions, Minnesota would be a much safer place. Instead, they continue to invent new ways to harass and further burden law-abiding gun owners.
Stay tuned for any new developments.
Finally, I wanted to end on a positive note by wishing you all a very special national FFA week!
The Future Farmers of America (FFA) do outstanding work in our communities giving students a great opportunity to develop leadership skills, and personal growth, and foster a deep appreciation for farming.
