Legislative UpdateDear friends and neighbors, Last week was another busy week here at the capitol with committees, floor sessions, and multiple bill hearings. In State Government we heard House File 1 and House File 2. House file 1 establishes an Office of the Inspector General, powers provided, duties specified, fraud reporting tools required, grant oversight duties and powers transferred, executive Offices of Inspector General modified or repealed, and money appropriated. We also heard House File 2 which would make Fraud reporting required when a state employee has reason to suspect fraud, and grants management requirements strengthened. HF 1 and 2 along with HF3 are House Republicans top priority bills to end the waste fraud and abuse that has been ravaging the state. HF 1 has been referred to Education Finance and HF 2 has been referred to Ways and means which is likely to be its final committee stop before being sent to the House Floor for approval from the body. Also, I introduced HF 276, a bill to reduce fishing license fees by $10 for seniors 65+. A small but meaningful recognition for those who have given so much to our communities. From the Old Guys Fishing Club to Take a Kid Fishing programs, these people are pillars of our community. Let’s make it easier for them to keep doing what they love.
