Legislative Update

Dear Neighbors,

This week at the Capitol, I’ve been hearing from many of you about the governor’s reckless budget proposals, and I share your concerns. One of the biggest issues is his attempt to cut funding for non-public school students, cutting textbook subsidies and busing support that have been in place for 53 years. Parents and educators in our district have made it clear, this is unacceptable. Meanwhile, the governor is also proposing deep cuts to nursing home assistance, jeopardizing care for some of our most vulnerable seniors. These drastic measures are his way of trying to fix the $6 billion structural deficit that his own party created. And if that weren’t enough, his plan to bring state employees back to the Capitol has hit a major roadblock....we don’t have the parking or office space to accommodate them, thanks to poor planning and wasteful spending. It’s clear this administration is out of touch with reality, and I will continue fighting for common-sense solutions that put Minnesotans first.

As Oscar Wild said, "The bureaucracy is expanding to meet the needs of the expanding bureaucracy". This is exactly what Walz and the Democrats are trying to do, and the House Republicans are not going to let Walz and the Democrats balance a budget they messed up on the backs of our most vulnerable populations.

This week I met with the Superintendent of school district 112 Eastern Carver County. We discussed how the paid family medical leave act (PFMLA) will affect the schools in his district. We also discussed how the Governor's proposed cuts to education will affect students, teachers, staff and the community.

As always, I encourage you to reach out or visit the Capitol. I’m here to listen and help.
