Neighbors,
As the committee deadline approaches, I have been hard at work to get important bills before my colleagues so that we can enact legislation this session that eases regulations on Minnesota businesses and people.
My bill to allow micro distilleries to sell their finished product on-site, HF1509, was heard in the Commerce and Regulatory Reform committee on Tuesday. This is a common sense reform that will make business easier for micro distilleries, providing benefits all along the supply chain – from bottlers to label makers. You can read more about the testimony given in committee here.
Thank you to Gina Holman and Bill Miller for joining me to testify on the bill.
HF533, creating “Start Seeing Motorcycles” special license plates, was heard in Transportation Policy and Finance on Wednesday. My bill allows drivers the opportunity to voluntarily obtain a special license plate at a premium price creating an A.B.A.T.E directed fund to the “Start Seeing Motorcycles” fund, increasing the visibility of this important message to all Minnesotans. This bill was supported by A.B.A.T.E and I received many emails of support from motorcyclists for the bill. As the weather heats up and more motorcyclists begin to join our roadways, I hope you’ll always be sure to keep your eyes and ears open to protect others.
Testifier Mike Berger spoke on the importance of dedicated license plates for this important matter of public safety.
On Thursday, I presented my bill to streamline the process for permit to carry members when they visit the Capitol grounds. We had a packed hearing room for HF372, and my bill was passed out of committee thanks to the wonderful testimony from experts and community members. It will be heard on the floor in the coming weeks.
Last, but certainly not least, thank you to all of the visitors that have come to the Capitol to share your thoughts on legislation and community issues. This week, Major General Richard Nash (no relation) stopped by to talk to me about my time in the legislature thus far, and to make sure I’m doing the family name proud, but also shared the mission of our Minnesota National Guard, their needs, and how I can help as a legislator. I hope that I continue to make Major General Nash and our entire community proud as I work hard every day in the legislature for you.
I was also visited by Norwood Young America residents Doane and Brit Baber. It was great to hear more about our community’s thoughts on important legislation, while also getting to show Doane and Brit a glimpse of my day at the Capitol. Thanks for stopping by!
Please remember to stay in touch to share your thoughts on legislation before the House. You can meet with me in St. Paul by scheduling an appointment with my Legislative Assistant, Natalie, at (651) 296-5999. You can also email me directly at rep.jim.nash@house.mn, or connect with me via Facebook here.
Enjoy your weekend,
Rep. Jim Nash
