SAINT PAUL, MN—Today, the Minnesota House passed immediate premium relief for Minnesotans who buy their insurance on the individual market. Rep. Liz Olson (DFL-Duluth) released the following statement:
“We needed to pass health insurance relief that helped families who needed insurance. The bill we passed today will help alleviate the crushing premium increases farmers, families and small business owners are facing. There are still long term policy changes we must make to ensure people have the best, most affordable healthcare in the country, including pushing strongly for Governor Dayton’s public option proposal. It is alarming to me that there are potential perks to for-profit insurance companies and policy that hasn’t undergone public scrutiny in this bill. I’ll be watching the impacts of these changes closely to make sure that we don’t further weaken health insurance for all of us in the future.
In the last several weeks, I’ve heard from too many Duluth residents who were unable to pay the high cost of premiums to allow the problems with this bill to keep relief from passing and helping families when they need it immediately.”
