Dear Neighbors,
Last week, the 2021 legislative session kicked off. I’m honored to have this opportunity to serve as we work to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic and help people overcome the challenges they continue to experience.
COVID-19 has challenged us in impossible ways. No matter the difficulties we find ourselves in at the moment, House DFLers are moving forward under the ideal that everyone deserves the opportunity to reach for their hopes and dreams, and can succeed and thrive once we’ve moved beyond our current crisis.
Wednesday, we announced our first priorities for the 2021 legislative session. These bills don’t represent everything we wish to accomplish this session, but they address the most urgent needs of Minnesotans right now. Our first five bills focus on economic security, worker protections, health care and human services, education, and child care. I invite you to watch our press conference announcing our agenda here.
I’m disappointed that because of COVID-19’s public health threat, gathering in person as a community isn’t practical right now. Still, I’m deeply interested in hearing from people about their ideas, challenges, and how we as lawmakers can help.
On Saturday, January 23 at 10 a.m., I’ll be joining Representative Jen Schultz and our new State Senator Jen McEwen for a Virtual Town Hall Meeting. We will meet on Zoom (meeting ID: 943 2687 8456, password 033502). To join by telephone, attendees can dial 312-626-6799 and enter the meeting ID and password when prompted. The town hall is nonpartisan and everyone in the community is welcome. If you’d like to submit a question, email it along with your name and address to Lyndsey.Hanson@house.mn with “Town Hall Question” in the subject line. We look forward to seeing you!
Good news is on the horizon in our battle with COVID-19, and the vaccine is being distributed to our health care workers and long-term care residents. If you’d like to stay updated throughout the vaccine distribution process, our state’s new Vaccine Data Dashboard is a great resource.
Please reach out to me with your input, ideas, or if I can ever be of assistance. It’s an honor to represent you.
Sincerely,
Liz Olson
State Representative
