SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Rep. Liz Olson (DFL – Duluth) issued the following statement regarding Rep. Jen Schultz’s announced plans to not seek reelection to the Minnesota House this November:
“Rep. Schulz is a powerhouse at the State Capitol. I can’t think of anyone who works harder or smarter, especially throughout all of the challenges due to the pandemic. While her voice is quiet, she’s been a vocal champion for workers, families, and people who deserve less expensive, better health care. Chairing the Human Services Committee, she created a space for bold ideas to help improve the lives of older Minnesotans, people with disabilities, children, and those experiencing poverty. She’s been a tireless advocate for UMD and our other colleges and universities, helping Duluth and the Twin Ports remain a crown jewel for higher learning. Through good budget times and bad, her wisdom as an economist has proven invaluable. She’s also worked to protect our cherished clean water resources, joining collaborative efforts to protect Lake Superior and the Great Lakes’ watershed.
“Our region is unique, and I’ll deeply miss her partnership as we’ve worked to share our story with the rest of the state and deliver for Duluth. I know she will continue to make enormous contributions to our community and to our state, and want to wish her all the best for whatever she has planned next.”
