Greetings!
On Wednesday, I spent the morning in Todd County on the 2017 West Central Landscape Legislative Field Tour, and, on Thursday, I had the opportunity to attend the Minnesota Agricultural Education Leadership Council’s listening session at Central Lakes College; what a great council with knowledgeable educators!
I also had a rewarding experience on Tuesday when I spent the day at Nisswa Elementary School. I really enjoyed getting to know these wonderful students and their excellent teachers!
MNLARS
If you have been experiencing issues trying to register a vehicle, transfer a title, etc. at any of our local license bureaus, it is due to a new system that has been implemented by the Department of Public Safety: the Minnesota Licensing and Registration System (MNLARS). The House Transportation Finance Committee has been working closely with the Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety to not only get Minnesota license bureaus back to operating functionally, but to also improve their efficiency. Click here to share any issues you’ve experienced.
REAL ID
The state of Minnesota was recently granted an extension from the federal government on the implementation of REAL ID until October 10th, 2018. As long as the Department of Public Safety is able to remedy the issues with MNLARS, the goal is to have REAL ID-compliant licenses ready to be distributed next fall. Your current driver’s license will still meet federal requirements until all REAL ID-compliant licenses are distributed.
Once the state is ready to distribute REAL ID’s, Minnesotans will have to either apply for a REAL ID-compliant license, or for a non-compliant license, as well as use a passport in order to board airplanes, or visit military bases and federal buildings. At this point, no action needs to be taken on your end.
