ST. PAUL – Representative John Huot (DFL- Rosemount) yesterday introduced legislation to provide a $500 tax credit to eligible volunteer firefighters, emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and ambulance service workers.
“These public safety workers work on a volunteer basis and put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe,” said Rep. Huot. “They deserve economic security for their families as they carry out this public service, in addition to working their other full time jobs.”
Eligible firefighters and EMTs must have earned at least six months of service. Qualified ambulance service workers must have served for at least one year.
The bill awaits a committee hearing in the House Tax Committee.
