Dear Neighbors,
On Wednesday last week, Governor Tim Walz delivered his first State of the State Address. He shared the aspirations and challenges of our neighbors in communities across Minnesota. Governor Walz delivered real-life stories of Minnesotans including small business owners, working families, veterans, and more. It was a powerful address that was unscripted and straight from the heart. The Star Tribune’s coverage of the address is here. Watch the speech here.
As we focus on the end-of-session negotiations with the Senate, I will be keeping the Governor’s unifying One Minnesota message in mind. |

Budgets are more than just spreadsheets and numbers -- they’re a reflection of our values and morals. The Minnesota Values Budget invests in all of us so our state can work better for everyone no matter where you live.
The House Majority yesterday announced a tax bill that would raise $1.2 billion in new revenue, largely by taxing corporations’ foreign profits, and invest it in education, health care, and safe and inclusive communities. As a committee member of the Education Finance and Policy Committees, I’d like to highlight our education budget.
In response to Minnesotans who have told lawmakers for years that the state’s commitment to schools has not kept pace with inflation, the House Majority is proposing to invest $900 million in E-12 education -- approximately three-fourths of the new revenue raised by the tax bill (largely through corporations’ sheltered profits through global tax havens).
I’m pleased to share that a couple of my bills have been incorporated into the final E-12 Education Budget. You can read about them among the highlighted investments below:
