St. Paul, Minn.-- Governor Walz announced today the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) is awarding nearly $500,000 to 40 unserved and 225 underserved locations in northwestern Rosemount. As a result of this broadband grant, Charter Communications will improve broadband service levels, exceeding the 2022 and 2026 state speed goals. This funding was made possible as a result of bipartisan legislation in 2019 that has been enacted into law.
Representative John Huot (DFL-Rosemount) released the following statement:
“Minnesotans deserve fast, reliable internet access they need for work, school, and home. The Rosemount residents I represent in these neighborhoods, many of whom are teachers, will benefit from this funding to help lesson-plan, prepare for classes, and post materials for students and parents online.
“Broadband is a necessity in our modern-world. I’m grateful for DEED’s partnership to help Rosemount residents advance and thrive in the 21st century.”
The DEED Border-to-Border Broadband Development Grant Program will fund 30 broadband projects across the state. The projects will bring high-quality broadband access to underserved and unserved areas of Minnesota, providing fast, reliable internet access for more than 10,900 businesses, homes, and community anchor institutions.
